“Let’s play a game…“ is the premise upon which Our Lovers is built. When a a doe eyed brunette (Michelle Jenner) approaches a wistful bearded man (Eduardo Noriega) in a bookstore, she informs him she wants to play, and what follows on from them are a series of revelations more humorous and astounding than the last. And it’s not quite as kinky as it sounds.
A mysterious union is made in the bookstore and the chemistry is tangible immediately. Over the course of the film we get to know the pair, as they go to know each other. It’s a fun and playful narrative, that becomes more compelling as truths about each character are revealed.
It’s hard to say much about it without ruining the revelations for you, but what I will acknowledge, is that I really enjoyed it. With thematic elements reminiscent of Ruby Sparks, Our Lovers is an equally refreshing look at the genre. It’s on Netflix, so don’t delay. Get over there!
